NBA All Star Weekend – Reebok VIP Launch Event

The Bok Door - Welcome to the future.

Just before Christmas I received a truly exciting brief from Reebok that really had the whole team busy right up to Christmas and then into the new year.

Our biggest budget activation to date with a whole host of VIP's and exciting ideas flying around - it was all hands on deck to turn our pitch around on time and move super quickly with just 6 weeks to turn mood boards into reality.

Leading the pitch creative team we worked up and presented routes on the last day before the Christmas break. We really wanted to celebrate Reeboks basketball heritage and really hero them coming back into that arena going forwards (now they're under new ownership).

We did this be looking forwards into the brands future by transforming a space into a retro 90's Reebok store and turning the back 'staff room' door into a gateway into 'The Future' of Reebok activation space. No stone was left unturned when finding truly creative ways to make this event stand out and really help Reebok connect with it's consumers, VIP's and stakeholders.

From 90's style jeopardy games shows, to customisation stations with bespoke Reebok fonts, to Shaquille O'Neill's very own Wreck-Reation room complete with blow up couches and retro Shaq-Fu computer games and Dee Brown's famous 'No Look Dunk' slam contest.

The event put Reebok on the map during All Star weekend 2022 with people coming from across Cleveland and the US to blag their way onto the most exclusive guest list for the weekend and get involved in the action.

We were joined by many of Reeboks key directors, account contacts and some legendary VIP's including Big Shaq himself, Allen Iverson aka The Answer, Dee Brown, Myles Garrett and a host of other big names from the NBA All Star Weekend.

The event smashed all targets, by selling out twice and getting more people through the door than promised, the clients were super happy with the outcome with praise coming  from across Reeboks retail, global basketball and procurement teams.

A huge thanks to everybody involved in this iconic event!

Reebok x Keith Haring

A really cool project to work and lead on... a collaboration between an iconic brand and legendary artist. Below are a couple of the social stories, followed by a couple of key visuals. Each release in the pack has its own narrative relating to each release and the artwork it is inspired by - through the creative concept which turners the consumer into artist and brings the life in front of your eyes, with the shoe becoming part of the process that inspired it.

Reebok x Eames – Friends & Family Launch Event, Los Angeles

In the summer of this year the dream brief landed on my desk, to work on the launch campaign for the super exclusive Reebok x Eames collaboration. As part of that pitch win and campaign activation I lead the creative of an exclusive launch event, taking place at the newly renovated Eames Case Study House in the California hills.

The full case studies for the event and also for the retail activations created for END and Footpatrol will hopefully be online soon! Below is a little snapshot...

Reebok x Jelly Belly

If you need your shoes with a side of sweetness, look no further than the Reebok x Jelly Belly collaboration that’s coming your way!

The bold and brightly coloured footwear pays tribute to vibrant Jelly Belly flavours and even features scented silicone soles! Our key visual creative takes this twisted cocktail of flavours (sweet, savoury and sickening!) and bring the footwear to life with 3D characters created from the beans that inspired the shoe. The Resulting action is a visual and interactive interpretion of that cocktail through the lens of lockdown and the skillls, tricks and hobbies we've all picked up along the way!

This is includes the party mix, home DJ, the super sour cocktail and its body contorting effect on the new super flexible yogi.

Reebok x Power Rangers

A collectors pack in the true sense of the word. A pack where all the individual releases come together to build a giant Megazord, and what better way to hero that than by bringing this to life within our key visuals themselves. An illustrated 3D box world animates and comes together, showing that we are stronger together and elevating the true collective nature of the Reebok x Power Rangers release.

REEBOK X OFFSPRING COMMUNITY WORKOUT PLUS ‘ICE’

Celebrating everything community with the OFFSPRING collaboration with Reebok with campaign concept art direction, activation creative and retail tools that brings OFFSPRINGS limited edition of the Workout Plus ‘Ice’ to the consumer.

For those who are old enough to remember, the Reebok Work Out “Ice” was a big U.K. trend in the late 90s. Whether it was on the Ripple sole, in a multitude of colours and shades or finding it’s way on other Reebok models, the “Ice” sole was a must have. You’d have people teaming them up with Iceberg jackets and crazy Mosh jeans, it truly was a phenomena that swept up and down the country.

The campaign was shot by OFFSPRINGS very own community member  @nineteen.85

"We wanted to encapsulate and evoke nostalgic emotions of fun times with friends.  Whether it was in the park, at the skate rink or just hanging out in the community, Reebok’s rich historic heritage has always been present, and representative of UK culture through the years."

The idea was for this shoe to give you the feeling of those good old memories and whilst you wear it, to make new ones.

In addition to all this I created special elements for the release. With every purchase OFFSPRING included a custom ice cubes tray stamped with the brands logos to keep you cool on those summer days and you will also receive a dual branded community tote bag.

The “With Love” Project

I first heard about this project about 18 months ago over a coffee with my then neighbour Chris Roberts. He had started a little side project meeting, photographing and interviewing craftsmen and makers - people who run their own business built on their passion for the product and process.

Cut to now after one failed and a second successful kickstarter campaign the With Love book has finally landed on my table and it's a thing of beauty. (Good work lads!) Full of inspiring case studies and beautiful photography from projects and businesses of passion from around the UK. It's lovingly put together and well worth getting your hands on.

Now the kickstarter is finished you can buy a copy here: withloveproject.co.uk

The Design Museum & The Eames Exhibition at the Barbican

Finally after nearly going on several occasions I finally got to check out the Design Museum at its current home on the bank of the Thames. There was a great exhibition on cycling, from its first forms through to ultra modern time trial bikes. A highlight was seeing Chris Boardman's gold medal winning Lotus from the '92 Barcelona Olympics.

The other main exhibition was "Design of Year 2015".

Now in its eighth year, Designs of the Year celebrates design that promotes or delivers change, enables access, extends design practice or captures the spirit of the year. Someday the other museums will be showing this stuff.

Some great work on display... and I love the BMW i8.

Finally I squeezed in a quick visit to the Barbican for the "World of Charles and Ray Eames" exhibition. I got there 20 mins before it closed and the attendant advised me it takes 2 hours to see it all. I whizzed round in 15 mins... here are the highlights!

Manchester After Hours

Manchester After Hours is the rainy city’s take on the national, annual Museums at Night celebrations: for one night only, museums, galleries and libraries stay open late for some creative goings on - with nearly everything free to attend.

First up was the Unit X exhibition at Federation House. Unit X took over Federation House for its annual showcase of emerging talent from Manchester School of Art. Film, art, design and photography come together in exhibitions and installations throughout the building.

After a pit stop in Trof for a cheeky pint (the free bar ran out in Federatin House just as we got to the front of the queue), we bumped into the choir and brass band which were touring the Northern Quarter playing and singing to whoever was passing by.

Next stop was Fred Aldous which was hosting an evening of FREE creative collaboration including; live painting, photobooth mugshots and a Risograph zine workshop.

Up next was a visit to the roof terrace above Manchester creative agency, Music, where they were playing a few tunes whilst offering up good views back over Stevenson Square and the Northern Quarter.

It was getting cold now, so we headed down to Ply below for a little break and to kill some time before heading over to the NCP car park in the centre of the Northern Quarter for our final event of the evening.

A-top of the NCP multi-storey car park on Church Street, musicians, choirs, street performers and brass bands deliver a pumping finale to the Northern Quarter’s proceedings. As the pictures and videos below show, it was a great way to end the evening with everyone getting involved in the carnival atmosphere.

the Whitworth

The Whitworth, Manchester's gallery in the park, has just reopened after a £15 million renovation and expansion. Having never been before I had been wanting to check it out since the re-opening, and its well worth a visit. There's good mixture of exhibitions from photography, portraits, sculpture and art, with the exhibition spaces also adding their own character to the displays.

The park location is great, especially on a sunny day like day. Whether you're inside and catching glimpses of green out side or outside where the new glass extension cantilevers into the park.

My highlights were: The 1960s: Works by Peter Blake, Bridget Riley and others reveal the riotous colour, fashion and art of the era and Cornelia Parker's solo show. Cai Guo-Qiang, Unmanned Nature looked interesting, but there was a big queue so I just poked my head round the corner for that. Also worth noting is the 'War Room', a large space lined with the left over cutting sheets from the production of memorial poppy's.
